Presented By: Chief Charles Celano (Ret.). Charlie is a seasoned executive and leadership development consultant with nearly 30 years of experience in public safety. As a professional speaker, trainer and coach, Charlie is focused on helping others, especially those in management positions, build personal and professional resilience to enhance leadership success. Charlie spent 27 years with the Tustin Police Department in Orange County working his way up through the ranks to become the 14th police chief in the department’s 90-year history. Throughout his career, Charlie worked a variety of assignments, including patrol officer, field training officer, narcotics detective, gang detective sergeant, lieutenant, captain and ultimately the chief of police.
Charlie is a graduate of the 258th session of the FBI National Academy for Law Enforcement Leaders in 2014. He also achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Studies from California State University, Long Beach in 2005 and a Master of Arts degree in Business Management from the University of Redlands in 2009.
Session Description: This course presents a step-by-step overview on how to “stand up” a successful succession plan for each participant’s respective agency. A well-executed succession plan can build a culture of positivity, high morale and results-oriented professional development.

Session Description: “Officer and Organizational Wellness” discusses the daily work traumas of the police profession and how they can injure an officer’s brain causing post-traumatic stress, suicide, depression, anxiety and sleep disorders, addictions, excessive use of force, apathy, unprofessional service, and many other psychological and emotionally distressing symptoms that can seriously impair an agency’s ability to fulfill its mission. It provides evidence-based strategies to be practiced daily that strengthen resilience and enhance physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellness. The presentation also defines organizational wellness and offers strategies for agency leaders to create mechanisms of support and wellness from recruitment to retirement that offers the best chance for our people to have a meaningful and fulfilling career while reaching retirement at peace and in wellness.
